Important Update for both current and prospective applicants (5/21/20):
Unfortunately, due to the ongoing situation regarding COVID-19, we will no longer be able to host visiting students for this academic year. This is a university wide decision and visiting student offers at Rush Medical College have been suspended for the 2020-2021 academic year. We understand and highly value the impact of away rotations for both us as a residency program and you as an applicant, and we regret that we will not be able to offer visiting rotations this year. We sincerely appreciate the strong interest we have seen and the many applications we have received, and we will update this page if we are able to offer any virtual rotation options in the future.
Thank you for your interest in a visiting student clerkship at Rush University Medical Center!
We are happy to host visiting students to give interested students an opportunity to rotate through and see the department and educational opportunities at Rush first hand. Visiting students will rotate through Rush University Medical Center in downtown Chicago.
As a student rotating in our Emergency Department, you will function as a sub-Intern on your clinical shifts and you will have the opportunity to care for patients of all ages. During this 4-week rotation, you will complete 13 shifts and you will attend a suture lab, hands-on simulation sessions, and resident education sessions. We will also provide a Standard Letter of Evaluation (SLOE) for this rotation, and you will have an opportunity to interview for our residency program while you are in Chicago.
Note: this is a separate rotation from the Cook County (Stroger) visiting student rotation. For students interested in a visiting student rotation at Cook County Hospital, please visit: http://www.cookcountyem.com/students/
To apply, we will first require you to submit a pre-application through our online application.
Once accepted by the Emergency Medicine Clerkship Director, students will then be required to submit a secondary application through the Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO). All required VSLO documentation must be received as a condition of acceptance of the rotation. Please do not submit a VSLO application unless you have been notified of acceptance by the clerkship coordinator. Applications submitted through VSLO without being accepted via the pre-application will not be considered.
Application Requirements:
- All visiting students must submit on online application via our website to be considered for a clerkship
- Must be current student at US medical school. We do not accept international students at this time.
- You must have a USMLE Step 1 score. We accept osteopathic students to the rotation, however we require a USMLE step 1 score.
- All students must have proof of adequate immunizations and proof of adequate malpractice insurance. This will be required to be submitted with your VSLO documentation.
